Stacey E. Atkinson

1969 - 2024

Stacey E. Atkinson, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

He was born in St Stephen, N.B. in 1969, son of the late John and Brenda (Johnson) Atkinson.

Stacey graduated from St Stephen High School in 1988. After graduating, he moved to Ontario to pursue a trade in carpentry. However, Stacey loved his hometown and decided to go home. Upon returning in 1990 he met and married his wife and best friend of 33 years, Allison. The couple made their home in St Stephen and raised two children, Zachary and Rachael.

Over the years, Stacey’s work led him in many directions until he returned to his passion in carpentry and started his own business.

Stacey was a devoted basketball fanatic, often referring to basketball as his "religion." He dedicated many years to coaching basketball in his community and he took pride in instilling the love of the game into others.

Stacey was the king of "useless knowledge." He never met a stranger and was a master of terrible jokes. He was often found on the golf course, at a poker table, or in his recliner watching a low-budget movie that he thought "looked interesting."

Above all else, he loved his family. He was proud of their accomplishments, big or small and never missed an opportunity to talk about them to others.

He is survived by his wife Allison (Saunders), son; Zachary, daughter; Rachael Niles (Tyler), three grandchildren; Callie, Hunter and Natalie, four siblings; John (Mary Ellan), Lance (Lana), Andrew (Amanda), and Angela, mother-in-law; Kristi Saunders, several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

In addition to his parents, Stacey was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Samuel Saunders.

Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, N.B. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 2 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 5th from 6-8 pm and Friday from 1–2 pm.

For those who wish, donations to the St Stephen High School Varsity Basketball or charity of one’s choice in his memory would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at mehanfuneralhome.ca
