With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" C. Hanley, age 53, on August 23, 2025.
Born and raised in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Mike also spent treasured time during his youth in Calais, Maine.
Mike was a true jack-of-all-trades and master of many. Over the years, his work included diving, trucking, heavy equipment operations, drywalling, taxi service, home renovations, mechanics, car restoration, and many years of operating his wreath shop for Tuddenham and many more endeavours. Whether running his own businesses or lending a hand to others, Mike brought skill, pride, and an unwavering work ethic to everything he did.
Above all else, Mike lived for his family. He was the one many turned to first—always ready with a listening ear, a helping hand and a generous heart. His loyalty, selflessness and devotion made him a cornerstone in the lives of those who loved him.
He was a dedicated partner, father, grandfather and friend. His legacy will continue in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Each of his children and grandchildren held a sacred place in his heart and his loving life partner Anna was the steady presence by his side through it all. From the moment they entered the world, Mike made it his mission to be present for every milestone, every celebration and every challenge. He believed that memories were the true wealth of life and he poured himself into creating them—whether it was a moment in the garage, a spontaneous adventure with the kids, wild rides in the cars, supper dates, coffee or a heartfelt conversation at his kitchen table.
His advice was raw, honest, never sugar-coated but always rooted in love and wisdom. He spoke with the kind of clarity that only comes from living fully and caring deeply. To his family, he was not just a guiding light—he was the steady hand, the voice of reason and the heart that held them all together.
Mike is survived by his loving life partner, Anna Booth; his children Angela (Dustin), Jonathon (Toni), Michael, Erika, and Katie; and his beloved grandchildren Ayvaeh, Ayvree, Ayden, Turner, Thomas, Juniper, Dreyden, Gunner, Rhyan, and Paris. He will also be deeply missed by his faithful dog, Henry; his sisters Marie, April (Jamie), and Wendy (Jamie); as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Special mentions to Eugene Kerr and Richard Leavitt, his longtime work crew.
He was predeceased by his beloved youngest son, Christopher Hanley; his parents, Kenneth and Marian Smith; his grandparents, Effie and Willis Smith, and Mary and Orris Nelson Bridges Sr (Calais, ME); his sister Kelly Marie Smith; his infant granddaughter, Destiny; in-laws, Bill and Kathleen Booth, Duane Turner and his dear friend, Philip Williams.
Visitation will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home, 23 Main Street St Stephen, New Brunswick, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2 p.m.
