Son of the late Walter B. and Leola A.(Macwha) Buchanan.Norman was a Veteran of World War II, serving from 1939-1945 and awarded the Military Cross with two Bars (Africa, Italy, France), MLA for Charlotte County and Minister of Lands and Mines under the Hon. Hugh John Flemming government from 1952-1960, Mayor of the Town of St. Stephen, NB 1965 and owned and operated the family business Buchanan Bros. Furniture Store downtown St. Stephen until his retirement.Survived by his wife of 64 years, Janetta C. (Wilson) Buchanan; two daughters, Janice Buchanan and Gale MacDonald both of Fredericton, NB; one son, Bruce Buchanan of Langley, BC; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Pam, Ian, Melissa, Johnathan, Kate and Jen; six great grandchildren, Alex, Amanda, Alex, Meghan, Tristan and Carson; one son-in-law, George Lawson of Surrey, BC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Predeceased by his parents, one son, John Buchanan; one daughter, Pamela Lawson; two sisters and one brother. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday July 2, 2008 at 2 PM from the St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, School Street, St. Stephen, NB with Rev. Cheryl MacFadyen officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion St. Stephen Branch #9 will conduct a tribute service following the funeral at the church. By request there will be no visiting hours held. The family will receive friends in the church hall with a reception following the funeral service.Interment at the St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, St. Stephen, NB. In lieu of flowers memorials to the charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.
