John G. Dionne

1938 - 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of John G. Dionne share the news of his passing on July 4, 2025, at Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, NB at the age of 87.

John was the son of the late Adolphus and Margaret Dionne (Riley).

John attended both the Holy Rosary Catholic School and Business College graduating in 1957.  Here he met and fell in love with his late wife of 64 years, Patricia (Pat) Dougherty.

John was a numbers guy.  He spent his career in various financial positions with Irving Oil, Conley Motors and finally 28 years with District 10 School Office before retiring in 1996.

John was a man of strong Catholic faith and an active member of his parish (Holy Rosary & St Stephen).  He was a lector, member of the choir and served on the Parish Council.  In addition, he was the founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6507 in St Stephen where he was a 4th Degree Knight and served as the Grand Knight and Financial Secretary.

John was an avid sports fan and loved to spend his time cheering on his favourite teams; The Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays and in his youth, the New York Yankees.

John was a loving husband and father; devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and a truly one-of-a-kind grandfather affectionately know to his grandkids as "Dappy".

John is survived by his children; Debra Thompson (Paul), Michael Dionne (Cindy) and Jeffrey Dionne (Mellissa), his grandchildren; Lyndsey Thompson Barter (Brad), Megan Boles (Brandon), Kierstin Dionne (Cody), Kaleb Dionne, Karissa Dionne, Julia Dionne and Tyler Dionne, great-grandchildren; Jack, Mallory, Lainey, Sawyer, Logan, Bayleigh, Isabella, Madelyn and Kaden.  In addition, he is survived by siblings; Audrey Cormier and Michael Dionne (Juliette) Sister-in-law; Nancy Dougherty, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his wife; Patricia, in-laws; Clarence and Doris Dougherty (Purcell), siblings: Joseph, Walter, Frances, Adolphus, Priscilla, Patrick and Marion, as well as several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Visitation will take place at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd, 23 Main Street St. Stephen, N.B. on Thursday July 10, 2025 from 4 – 6 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St Stephen Catholic Church, 407 Milltown Blvd St Stephen, N.B. on Friday July 11, 2025 at 11 am. 

Interment at the Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery, Barter Settlement, NB, following the Funeral Mass.
