Our hearts are broken but his legacy will live on within us. Joseph "Buddy" Peters passed away peacefully on Monday July 21, 2025, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St Stephen, New Brunswick.
Bud was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 1940, son of the late Albert and Belle Peters.
He and Betty were married in November 1964 and enjoyed a wonderful life together. Family was a huge part of their lives.
Bud worked as a painter/paperer for many years. He coached Minor Hockey on the outside rink surface in St Stephen and continued for several years after at the Border Arena. He also enjoyed being a spectator watching his grandsons play hockey in various arenas and was always up for a road trip.
Bud was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 6507 and a Legion member of Branch #9.
Later in life he enjoyed his time with the boys for coffee at Tim Horton’s and many pool games at Dooly’s in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
Buddy is survived by daughters; Cathy (Steve) Jackson and Terri (David) Dobson, son; Jeff Peters, daughter-in-law; Pege Peters, chosen son; Tom Duplessie, grandchildren; Katie Jackson, Chris Jackson (Bree), Jeremy Peters and Joel Peters (Jaymie), great grandchildren; Rhyanne, Connor and Jake, sister; Kaye Murray, niece; Janice Murray (Kenny), brother-in-law; Lawson Spires (Rosemary), nephew; Dwayne Spires (Rebeca), nieces; Jocelyn Hoyt (Brian) and Amanda Parsons (Adam) and their children, several cousins in the United States.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Betty Anne, his son; Joe Peters, brother-in-law; Gordon Murray, nephews; Bryan and Stephen Murray.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregiver, Pam Thibeault who made it possible for Dad to take his final trip to PEI, with Katie and the kids.
A funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, N.B. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 1 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm.
Interment will be at the Milltown Catholic Cemetery Barter Settlement, New Brunswick, following the funeral service.
