E. Allan Gillmor died at the Charlotte County Hospital on Sunday, December 22, 2024.  Allan was born at the Chipman Memorial Hospital, in 1944, the son of the late Leo Gillmor and Winifred (McMahon) Gillmor, and stepson of Anna (Spearin) Gillmor, who became responsible for Allan’s upbringing.

Allan attended St. Francis Xavier University and the University of New Brunswick before embarking on a teaching career, beginning at Simonds High School, followed by thirty years of teaching in St. Stephen.  During his university years, and during his first few years of teaching, Allan spent six summers working at the Algonquin in St. Andrews.  The Algonquin was always considered a special place by Allan. It was at this time that he met, and married Susan Maunder and they were blessed with seven children.

Allan was predeceased by his wife, Susan in 2008, his son Gregory in 2013, his daughter Anna and grandson Charles in 2017.  He is survived by daughters; Gillian; Anna’s husband, Howie Emerson and their children; Grace, James and Kate; Monica (John Ewart) and their children; Ryan, Brooklyn, Courtney, Kara and Joel; Christina, Charlotte (Guillaume Lepage) and their children; Madelyn, Libby, Leo and Max, son Mark (Jenna) and their children Nathan and Erin, his foster daughter Margie (Lee) (Tim Snell) and their sons Jonathan and Mathew.  Allan is also survived by his brother-in -law; Stephen Maunder (Wilma) and sister-in-law Doreen Maunder.

Allan had a great love of his community and helped in any way to see it prosper.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, serving as Parish Council.  He took great pride in the town and county, having served on Charlotte County Historical Society, Charlotte County Museum, Charlotte Heritage Region Organization, The Ste-Croix 2004 Organizing Committee, The Chocolate Museum and The Charlotte County Archives.

The economic health of the community was always important to Allan.  He was an advocate serving to better the community through the Saint John Fundy Regional Development Commission, Enterprise Charlotte, Development St. Stephen and the St. Stephen Area Chamber of Commerce, serving many years on town council as both councilor and mayor, as well as Chairing the St. Croix Estuary Project/Ganong Nature Park.

Allan will be remembered as a father, grandfather, educator, community supporter and an appreciator of the geography and history of his community.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 407 Milltown Blvd St Stephen, NB at 11 AM on Monday, December 30th, 2024.  Visiting hours will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, N.B. on Sunday, December 29th from 6 – 8 PM.
