It is with the deepest sorrow that the family of Eugene "Gene" Dickerson wish to announce his passing on Saturday May 11, 2024 at his residence on The Ledge, near St. Stephen, NB. He passed peacefully with his two sons by his side, watching the tide ebb and flow along the St. Croix River.

Gene was born in Calais, Maine, but was raised outside of St. Stephen, in Moores Mills, by his late parents, Tracy and Mildred (Marshall) Dickerson.

At the age of 18, Gene made his way to Ontario, the "land of milk and honey", staying with cousins near London, Ontario.  He worked at McCormick’s as a baker’s assistant, then began work in 1964 at Chrysler Canada in Windsor, Ontario, where he completed a 30-year career that saw him start on the assembly line, drive forklift and then use his dual citizenship status to drive transport trucks between Windsor and Detroit, Michigan.

Gene raised his two sons in Windsor, Ontario, mostly alone, and they never wanted for anything.

Gene retired from Chrysler Canada in 1994.  He had already set to work building his dream house on the banks of the St. Croix River, near his hometown of St. Stephen. He had always intended to move back to New Brunswick, and he did so with the woman who became the love of his life, Colleen Dickerson.

Over the next 30 years they travelled a circuit between her cottage in Ontario, their property in Florida and the house in NB, essentially following the good weather. The New Brunswick house was his pride and joy, and they spent the majority of their time there.

Proud members of the Legion, Gene and Colleen had many good memories there with local friends. Gene also liked hunting, taking many opportunities to hunt deer and moose with friends in the local area.

Gene is survived by his two loving sons, Tracy (Lana) and Terry (Amber), his brother Gardner (Brenda) and family, grandchild Cameron, Colleen’s children Kevin Donais (Nancy) and Linda Weir (Darrell), several grandchildren including Kelly Gibson and Sarah Gibson.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife and great love, Colleen.

Funeral service will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd, 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 1 pm.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday May 14, 2024 from 6 – 8 pm.   The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #9 will conduct a tribute service at 5:45 pm

Interment at Moores Mills Cemetery, Moores Mills, NB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gene’s memory to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
