Mavis M (Pike) Alain went to meet her Lord and Saviour at the
Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, New Brunswick, on Saturday
November 4th, 2023, after a sudden
illness.
Mavis was active in the Union Street Atlantic Baptist Church
where she taught Sunday School and served as
treasurer. She also volunteered at Hospice of
Charlotte, Lincourt Manor and was a member of the Atlantic
Charter Chapter IODE, which had planned on presenting her with a
certificate acknowledging 25 years of service. She was also
recognised by Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Saint John for her many
years mentoring students at Milltown Elementary School and St Stephen
Middle School.
Mavis also enjoyed square and round dancing for many years,
beginning with the Shootin’ Stars in Fredericton and
finishing with The Town and Country Squares in St.
Stephen.
While living in Fredericton, New Brunswick, she was proud of
her employment with the New Brunswick Medical Society, NB Law Society
and Easter Seals New Brunswick
Mavis worked at helping set up The Chocolate Museum in St
Stephen and then spent several years working for Home Support
Services. Mavis loved her interaction with her
clients.
Since her retirement, Mavis kept busy quilting (she believed
that the person who died with the most fabric was the
winner…….she didn’t get that award but
was in the running). She has gifted many, many quilts to
family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and
making teddy bears (with real and fun fur) as well as many other
crafts.
She is survived by her husband of almost 45 years (plus
another three years together), Roger Alain, her daughter Christina
Cook (Earl) of Fort Saint John, British Columbia and stepdaughter,
Lynette Alain and partner, Roy of Jamaica, granddaughter Megan,
grandson Robert and great-grandson Adam. She is also
survived by her sister Anita, brother Dwayne, several cousins, nieces
and nephews. She also leaves behind special friends
including Joanne, Carol and Bertha.
At the time of her death, Mavis was eagerly awaiting the
arrival of her daughter, granddaughter, and great grandson for special
visit. Mavis would also want to mention her special niece
Stephanie, (Love you to the moon and back) and Natalie and
families.
Mavis was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Burpee Pike,
one son, James, sister Nila, brother and sister-in-law, Marcus and
Joyce Pike.
A Celebration of her life will be held at Union Street
Atlantic Baptist Church, St Stephen, NB on Thursday November 9, 2023
at 2 pm. The family will receive friends at the church on
Thursday from 12pm until service time.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations in
Mavis’ memory to Easter Seals NB, IODE, or a charity of
one’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the
family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
