It is with great sadness the family of George D. Lister
announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday,
October 26, 2022.
Born in St. Stephen, N.B., son of the late Paul Sr. and Grace
(Coleman) Lister.
George grew up in St Stephen and graduated from St Stephen
High School in 1964. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in January
1965. He achieved the rank of Aircraftsman, 1st Class and served as a
Clerk Administrative Group 1. He was Honorably Released in June 1966.
After his release from the military, he worked on the construction of
the Harbour Bridge in Saint John.
In 1970, he moved to Calgary, where he lived for 52 years. He
had various occupations throughout his life there, such as, fireplace
installer and a dental technician. He later took LPN training and
worked in a group home for the mentally challenged. A job that he
loved. He retired as a Residential Support Worker in
2009.
George had a great love for all animals, especially for his
horse, Rex. He was also part of the St Stephen Horse Riding Club which
he initiated. Throughout the years in Calgary, he bred and raised
cockatiels, had a dog named Teiger, and made a fishpond in his
backyard.
George had many hobbies and interests. He loved riding horses
and his motorbike in the early years. He enjoyed travelling,
photography, camping, bowling, cross-country skiing, amusement parks,
especially the rollercoasters. He was a member of the St. Stephen
Horseshoe Pitchers Club and pitched horseshoes at the Canadian
Horseshoe Tournament in Calgary, and the World Horseshoe Tournament in
Topeka, Kansas.
In 2018, he returned home to New Brunswick and settled in
Rollingdam. He spent his remaining years fishing from the brook in the
front yard of his home he loved, gardening, raising his chickens, his
"pet" rooster and three cats.
George is survived by his partner of 17 years, Bryant
Germain, two brothers, Paul Lister (Peggy), Gary Lister (Betty), two
stepsisters, Ingrid Morten (Dick), and Chris Straub. He is also
survived by nieces and nephews, Nancy, Tanya, Marc, Bobby, Donny, and
Debbie, several great and great-great-nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a
younger brother Bobby and brother-in-law Steve Straub.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the
home of his brother Gary, at 4 Craig Road Dumbarton Parish,
NB on Saturday June 10th starting at 2
pm.
Interment will take place at the St Stephen
Rural Cemetery on Tuesday June 13th at 11
am.
