The family of Noreen J. Cooke are saddened to announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 11, 2023.  Born in Calais, Maine in 1952, daughter of the late Josiah (Duke) and Gwendolyn Mahar.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Josiah Blaine Mahar.

A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt.  She will be sadly missed by her husband Walter, her daughter Tara Lynn, her two sisters Marcia Jackson (William) of Lubec, Maine and Christy Stock (Michael) of Baldwinsville, New York, very special Aunt Elaine Leavitt of Lubec, Maine, her nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.  Noreen’s life revolved around her very close family.

Noreen graduated from Lubec High School and University of Maine Machias.  She taught school in Jackman and Greenville, Maine.  She spent the rest of her career working in education in the Calais Schools and she took great pleasure in the time she spent with students and staff there.  She loved working outside in her flower gardens planting, weeding and watering in spring and summer. 

The family would like to thank the paramedics and Dr. Webb and the nurses at the Charlotte County Hospital on Thursday, Feb.23, 2023.  The family would also like to thank the doctors and  nurses of the SICU at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their incredible care and compassion, both for Noreen and her family.

In accordance with Noreen’s wishes there will be no viewing or service at this time.  A family burial will be planned for later in the spring.  For those who wish, donations to Charlotte County Cancer or a different charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
