Robert Arnold Porter passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Rob was born December 18, 1968, in the town of St. Stephen.  He was the son of Mary Dolores Porter (nee Guitard) and the late Arnold Keith Porter.

People who didn’t know him and only saw a large and muscular man may be surprised to learn he was also a kind and gentle soul who couldn’t crush a spider and was constantly rescuing them from the house and his wife’s broom.  His two German Shepherds, Jasper and Maggie, will miss him dearly as he was their constant companion. He loved boxing, weightlifting, public speaking, and he loved helping others find and become the best version of themselves. He was forever philosophizing and giving sage advice and, in his life and work he did indeed make a difference in many peoples lives.

He found his purpose and he believed that there is no greater thing in life than family and purpose.  He was also a huge Toronto Maple Leafs / Blue Jays fan, despite all the ribbing and teasing from his wife and kids that they wouldn’t ever bring home the cup or victory.

He was a husband, father, son, brother, teacher, coach, mentor, leader and friend.  Rob is survived by his wife and partner of 33 years, Laura Lynn Porter and his children and best friends, Lyndsay Elizabeth Porter, Erin Irene Porter (Matthew Mackenzie) and Alexander Robert Arnold Porter and by his mother, Mary Dolores Porter, his sister, Kimberley Moses (Joseph), and by his special nephews and niece, Ryan, Jacob and Abigail Moses. He will also be forever in the hearts of his boxing and weightlifting buddies at Porter’s House of Pain Boxing and Training.

His passing has left a huge hole in the lives of his family and in the community that can never be replaced.  But at least we can be reassured that he now walks with his father Arnold and his uncle Roger and other family and friends that have predeceased.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations in his memory to the Charlotte County SPCA (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/charlotte-county-spca/?mprompt=1 ) or Neighbourhood Works/ Warming Shelter (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E357478QE&id=4)  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
