Stephen B. Smith was the oldest brother of the Smith
Brother’s. He was born at the Charlotte County Hospital in
1958 and drew his final breath there on February 14,
2023.
Steve was an avid fisherman, a skill that learned from his
Grandfather Calder during the many years he spent fishing on
Campobello Island as a child and adult. It brought him incredible joy
to be at the helm of a boat.
Steve was an outdoorsman and an accomplished marksman. His
greatest joy came in sharing his passion, whether taking a boat load
of kids to a fishing tournament or coaching them to shoot air
rifles.
He was a highly skilled machinist. There wasn’t
anything he couldn’t build or fix. He ran his equipment the
same way he ran his body, full bore.
As Chief of the Moores Mills Fire Department for thirty-five
years he was first to answer the call.
Most of all he was a brother, uncle and friend. He will be
missed by too many to name.
Thank you to the many professionals who cared for Steve
during his battles with cancer and the countless friends who supported
him his entire lifetime.
A celebration of his life will be held at The S.O. Mehan
& Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B. on
Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2 PM. Visitation will be held at the
funeral home on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8
pm.
Interment will follow the service at the Oak Hill
Cemetery.
Memorial donations to your local fire department, fish and
game association, community group, or Charlotte County Cancer Society
