He enjoyed travelling, photography, camping, bowling, cross-country skiing, amusement parks, especially the rollercoasters. He was a member of the St. Stephen Horseshoe Pitchers Club and pitched horseshoes at the Canadian Horseshoe Tournament in Calgary, and the World Horseshoe Tournament in Topeka, Kansas.

In 2018, he returned home to New Brunswick and settled in Rollingdam. He spent his remaining years fishing from the brook in the front yard of his home he loved, gardening, raising his chickens, his "pet" rooster and three cats.
