In her 88th year, Jeanne passed away peacefully at her wonderful residence of Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews, New Brunswick on Sunday, July 17th, 2022.

Born at home in Upper Little Ridge, New Brunswick to her parents of Kenneth (1991) and Lola (Bernier) Pomeroy (1996).  Predeceased by her husband, Frank Richards (October 2021).

Jeanne attended Upper Little Ridge School until Grade 8 then she went to St. Stephen High School where she graduated in 1952 in the first grade 12 graduating class. That fall, she headed off to Fredericton to Victoria Public Hospital where she graduated in 1955 as a nurse and received the Obstetrical Nursing Prize.

Jeanne was a dedicated nurse working at the Charlotte County Hospital which her father helped to build replacing the Chipman Memorial Hospital (1953). She followed in her mother’s footsteps as a nurse and worked on many floors with maternity being a favourite. Jeanne retired officially from nursing on December 31st, 1993 but continued to assist with any medical concerns until she went to Passamaquoddy Lodge.

A dancer at heart, Jeanne met Frank Richards at the Islandview Dance Hall in Bayside one evening in the summer of 1951.  They danced up a storm so the following week he asked to pick her up and she told him not to be drinking.  He arrived, met her parents and their relationship began with them marrying in 1955 on October 22.

Jeanne was a very competitive curler and keen sports supporter. She was a member of the IODE. An enthusiastic vegetable gardener in her later years and she loved to read and she walked daily to stay active and would often remark, "that if you don’t use it, you will lose it". Jeanne and Frank helped with Meals on Wheels and Relay for Life as well as other community events.

She was a dedicated shopper and she loved shopping for clothes. Jeanne was an awesome cook and baker. There were always fresh baked cookies, squares and goodies in the house. She made amazing pies which she would often offer for breakfast.

As a wine connoisseur, Jeanne also began making wine at home and perfected the art of emptying the bottles. She enjoyed her white wine and always had a glass to offer or a bottle to bring or give.

While the boys were growing up Frank and Jeanne had a trailer at Sunrise Shores, Maine USA for the summer until the late 80s where many friendships were made and have remained as well as a lot of fond memories.

Frank and Jeanne enjoyed their travelling every year while working and especially after retirement.  They had many wonderful travels - Africa, England and Scotland, USA, Austria, France, Germany, as well as several Caribbean Islands. They were particularly fond of Barbados where they vacationed for 25 years and had many wonderful friends. Frank used to say that Jeanne should have been born on wheels.

Jeanne was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousins, and dear friend to countless others. Jeanne loved being involved with her grandchildren. She was very proud of them, and she loved them dearly.

Jeanne took up residence at Passamaquoddy Lodge in November 2019. A special thanks to all the staff at Passamaquoddy Lodge for their amazing friendship, care and love shown to Jeanne. Also, special thanks to nurse Michelle Johnson, who went above and beyond for her sister-in- law’s mother-in-law; and to Dr. Lesley Pinder for the patient care shown to Jeanne while in the Lodge as well as her friendship as they worked together for many years and socialized together. Thanks to all the staff at the Lodge for making this her home.

Leaving many fond memories for her two sons - Steven Richards (Denise Lord) and their two boys - Jeff (Kayla) & Cody (Laura); and Bill Richards (Veletia Johnson) and their two girls - Malika & Madalyn. Great-grandchildren (Jeff) - Connor, Logan & Malia.

Coming from a very small family, Jeanne also left many memories with her only sibling - Jim (Mary) Pomeroy of Oakville, Ontario, along with their two daughters - Suzanne & Stephanie and their families, as well as Frank’s sister’s family – Liz (2016) & Digger (2003) McAdam - Scott, Pat, Jim & Debbie and their families.

Jeanne will be fondly missed and always remembered. She will always be in our hearts forever. Her love of cooking, baking, shopping and travelling will always be remembered.

Cheers to you, Jeanne, (Mom, Nanny, Nan) – love you!
