It is said that only the good die young. Thus, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of J. "Troy" Kent on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 in his hometown of St Stephen, New Brunswick.

Troy was born to Shirley Kent on July 16th, 1972 and was raised in St Stephen where he attended high school and lived most of his life. In his younger years, Troy was a clamdigger and then became the caretaker for the Oak Bay Rural Cemetery. More recently, friends, family, and residents of St Stephen would have known Troy to be helping them out with just about anything that needed to be done, be it fixing a bike, mowing the lawn, or even just lending a jump when your car battery died.

Known to his many friends and family as "Troy Boy" and "Uncle Toad," he had a gravitas and jovial nature that quickly endeared him to just about everyone who met him, especially those with similarly silly tendencies and a desire to have fun. He was kind, thoughtful, and more than a bit of a joker. Whenever anyone seemed like they needed a laugh or smile, he was there with something funny to do or say, even if it was ridiculous and totally at his own expense. He was the epitome of a "people person"; he lived to help others and tried to make people happy.

Troy’s good nature was unconditional and extended beyond his joking as he was a habitually generous human being. His door was always open, even to those who had wronged him in the past. He provided anything he could, shared everything he had, and was one of the few people on Earth we can honestly say gave away much more than he ever received, especially when tallying what really matters in life. He was an especially fond Uncle to his nieces and nephews, some of whom even looked to him as a father figure and whom he certainly helped through hard times more than once (or twice), always making sure to check in regularly on the phone if not in person.

And while Troy certainly was happy to know and love so many (and be loved in return), we know he’s especially sad to leave his pride and joy, Miranda, for whom he was a loving father and fierce guardian. There is no doubt he will miss her most of all and the many milestones she still has ahead.

Some solace may be found in the fact that love itself cannot die and therefore Troy’s spirit remains in all of us with whom he shared. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, working on vehicles, watching NASCAR, hunting, bike runs, vacations in the camper…he was most often found helping others, be it with a smile or a hand (or two). To keep his love and spirit alive, we need only take his lead and look to our own friends and family to see who needs a laugh, a hug, or a helping hand.

And Lastly, a note to Troy – I will miss you dearly and love you with all my heart – From his Better Half, Andrea Sherman, with whom he spent the best years of his life and who gave him his beloved Miranda.

So in honor of his wise-ass and good-natured antics, crack open a Budweiser and toast to the next full moon. If you knew him, you may get that joke…and if you didn’t, it’s a butt joke and Troy approves.

Troy is Survived by Andrea Sherman, Daughter Miranda Kent, Brothers Kenny Leavitt and Alan Kent (Tammy), Sister Lisa Beckett (Gil), Nieces Tanya Noddin (Jeremy), Nicole Hannah (Ronnie Gullison), Kristy Kent (Alex Paupe), Katlyn Kent (Brandon Vrolyk), Alicia Townsend, and Michelle Mylen, Nephew Brandon Kent, Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law Maureen and Ray Navikenas, Brother-In-Law Darrell Dempsey, Brother-In-Law Markus Navikenas, and several Great-Nieces and Nephews.
