Peacefully and surrounded by her loving daughters, Shirley V. Purdy passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the age of 97 years.

Mom was born and raised in Cape Breton, NS., daughter of the late Earl and Katherine (McDonald) McKay.

Her family was very important to her, she was very close to her three daughters and her youngest grandson (who practically lived with her) and was known to spoil her other two grandchildren as well.

She will be lovingly remembered for her excellent cooking skills and when unexpected company arrived, she always provided a good meal for everyone, cooked entirely on a woodstove.

She enjoyed the wild animals and often had some coming up to her back door looking for a handout, especially one little fox, who regularly visited for several years. She would often feed the farm horses treats of molasses and bread.

Mom loved to write poems, would have played Bingo, every night, if she could and travel, whenever she had the chance. A walk in the back fields for her always led to the discovery of a four-leaf clover. She enjoyed fishing especially at the camp in Piskehegan and with Dad on the St. Croix River in his boat. She always caught the first fish and the largest one!

Survived by her daughters: Rebecca Hill (Eugene) of New Bridge, NB., Sylvia Arsenault (Leo) of Dufferin, NB., Cynthia Gregory (Joseph) of Dufferin, NB., grandchildren: Kirk Nichol (Sarah), Nicolette Rufa (Jason), Lubin Gregory, Sherry McBride (Ralph), Cindy Beliveau (Peter), Tammy DeWare (Mike) and Nicky Hill (Bruno) several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Purdy, one brother, six sisters and one granddaughter.

Funeral service will be held at The S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a time of visitation on Saturday from 1-2 PM.

Please be advised, that due to mandatory regulations imposed by the New Brunswick government, everyone 12 years of age and older, must show proof of vaccination or medical exemption certificate and government issued ID to attend the funeral service and or visitation. Face masks must be worn at all times while in the funeral home.

For those who wish donations to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, Staff and NBCC Nursing Students of Lincourt Manor and Charlotte County Hospital Family Care for the care and compassion shown to our Mother and our family during her time there.
