Peacefully and surrounded by her loving daughters,
Shirley V. Purdy passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the
age of 97 years.
Mom was born and raised in Cape Breton, NS., daughter
of the late Earl and Katherine (McDonald)
McKay.
Her family was very important to her, she was very
close to her three daughters and her youngest grandson (who
practically lived with her) and was known to spoil her other two
grandchildren as well.
She will be lovingly remembered for her excellent
cooking skills and when unexpected company arrived, she always
provided a good meal for everyone, cooked entirely on a
woodstove.
She enjoyed the wild animals and often had some
coming up to her back door looking for a handout, especially one
little fox, who regularly visited for several years. She would often
feed the farm horses treats of molasses and
bread.
Mom loved to write poems, would have played Bingo,
every night, if she could and travel, whenever she had the chance. A
walk in the back fields for her always led to the discovery of a
four-leaf clover. She enjoyed fishing especially at the camp in
Piskehegan and with Dad on the St. Croix River in his boat. She always
caught the first fish and the largest one!
Survived by her daughters: Rebecca Hill (Eugene) of
New Bridge, NB., Sylvia Arsenault (Leo) of Dufferin, NB., Cynthia
Gregory (Joseph) of Dufferin, NB., grandchildren: Kirk Nichol (Sarah),
Nicolette Rufa (Jason), Lubin Gregory, Sherry McBride (Ralph), Cindy
Beliveau (Peter), Tammy DeWare (Mike) and Nicky Hill (Bruno) several
great grandchildren and great, great
grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by
her husband, Hugh Purdy, one brother, six sisters and one
granddaughter.
Funeral service will be held at The S. O. Mehan
& Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB on
Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2 PM. The family will receive friends at
the funeral home for a time of visitation on Saturday from 1-2
PM.
