It is with great sadness that the family of Donald F. Hiltz
announce his passing on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Charlotte
County Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 88.
Born November 25, 1932, Don was the youngest of five
children. He was predeceased by his parents, Vernard and Ethel Hiltz
as well as his siblings: Vern, Earl, Eleanor Leahman and Ruth
Richardson.
Growing up in Milltown, Don left school early to begin work
at the St. Croix Cotton Mill. He soon began a long career with the
maintenance and later the warehouse team at Ganong Brothers, retiring
in 1997 after 43 years of service.
In his youth Don was an avid athlete, playing softball and
hockey into his 40’s, after which he enjoyed watching these
sports through NHL and MLB.
Don loved spending time with his friends and family at their
cottage in Oak Bay and could be found enjoying a beer in front of the
fireplace with Bea.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Beatrice and
their three children: Donna (Claude Bastarache) of Saint-Maurice, NB,
Sharon (Frank McCallum) of Beaver Harbour, NB, and David (Dawn-Marie)
of Dartmouth, NS. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Tina,
Ian and Ainsley, great-grandchildren, Gary and Kalista, great-great
grandchildren, Nevaeh and Bellamy and several nieces and
nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Rolling Dam United
Cemetery, Rolling Dam, NB on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2
PM.
