It is with great sadness the family of Bertha Richard announce her passing at Passamaquoddy Lodge on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Born August 1, 1929 in Saint-Charles, NB the daughter of Patrick and Evangeline (Boucher) Gallant.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers; Nazaire, Antoine, and Laurie, her husband of 67 years, André; her sons; Joseph and John, a daughter, Marie, and adopted son, Peter.

She is survived by her children, Allan (Nancy), Gerald (Yvonne), Leonard (Barb), Irene (Rob), Roger (Louise), Eugeine (Raejean), Geraldine ( Wayne), Laurina (Freddie), Ron (Lorraine), Laurie (Janice), Elise (Dale), Louise (Ray), Claudine (Rick), and Claudette (Robert), daughter-in-law, Juliet, and special family friend, Charlene Grant.  Thirty-three cherished grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters; Theresa, Alma, and Imelda, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mom has left her footprints in the sand of our lives.

Bertha’s greatest joy in life was her children and their expanding families. She took great pride in her gardens, her flowers but her greatest pride was her homemade bread which she continued to bake well into her 80’s and even when her sight was failing. You always wanted to visit on bread-making day.... you might be lucky enough to take a fresh loaf home. Acadian style Poutine and Meat pies were her specialty at Christmas, but you had to get there early! Knitted mittens and socks were always a treat under the Christmas tree. Music was a big part of family life, especially old time Country and Mom’s special favorite, John Denver.

She married the love of her life, André on November 13, 1946 and enjoyed 67 happy years before his death in 2014. They took great drives together, never really going anywhere.

The family will receive friends at The S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB. on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 6-8 PM. We ask that if you plan to attend the visitation at the funeral home, that you respect social distancing and please wear a mask for the safety of the family and all others who attend. A private family funeral will be held.

For those who wish, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
